Estate action plans

We've been working with tenants, residents, local councillors and our frontline teams to understand what matters most in your neighbourhood. Our Estate Action Plans set out what we've heard, what's changing, and how you can get involved in shaping your community.

Latest update: autumn 2026

Here's what we've done across Kirklees since your Estate Action Plans started in April.

Cleaner, tidier estates

Our teams have been holding Team Action Days on estates and Retirement Living Schemes across Kirklees. On each one, staff from different teams work together in one area for the day. They have:

• cleared fly-tipping
• cut back overgrown bushes and trees
• tidied up communal areas
• picked up repairs that needed doing
• talked to tenants about what else needs sorting

You told us you liked seeing our staff on your estate. You also liked the difference it made.

Better shared areas in blocks of flats

We've redecorated the shared areas in eight blocks of flats in Cleckheaton. We've also treated damp and mould in the shared areas of some blocks.

Over the next few months, we'll redecorate shared areas in more blocks across Kirklees. This follows work to upgrade the emergency lighting in those blocks.

What you told us this summer

We talked to tenants at our summer roadshows and community events. You told us your priorities are:

• tackling anti-social behaviour
• cleaner estates, with less fly-tipping and litter
• well-kept communal areas
• being able to get housing help and advice easily
• support for tenants who need extra help

These match what's already in your Estate Action Plan, so we'll keep working on them.

You also told us about parks, play areas and things for young people to do. You raised community buildings, transport and local shops and services too. We've passed this on to the council teams and partners who look after them.

Help with work and training

Our Employment Support Team can help you find work, training, an apprenticeship or volunteering. They can help the people you live with too. The team will keep coming to community events near you.
