What we've done

Individual bins - Skipton Street and Conway Crescent, Batley Carr

After monitoring the misuse of communal bins, we switched Skipton Street and Conway Crescent to individual refuse bins. Residents who want to recycle individually can also request a green bin. We consulted with residents and improved the bin storage areas.

Building improvements - Soothill

Soothill has received investment to upgrade housing, including new roofs, soffits, and improvements inside communal areas such as new flooring and fresh paint.

What we're working on

Reducing waste and fly-tipping - Batley Carr

We're tackling misuse of communal bin stores and helping residents dispose of waste correctly.

  • New waste management approach being trialled at Nidderdale House, Ryedale House, Airedale House, Deepdale House and Howard Street - Under review June 2026.
  • Face-to-face visits and information letters on correct waste disposal.

Improving Soothill Estate

We're investing in the estate to improve shared spaces and make the area feel safer.

  • Working with West Yorkshire Police on recommended changes to improve security and layout - 2026/27.
  • Consulting residents and community groups on proposed improvements — 2026/27.

New parking at Hyrst Walk - Batley Carr

  • We're creating additional parking spaces where the old garages were, to reduce fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour. Residents were consulted and voted for parking over a seating area.
  • Garages demolished and work started - Due summer 2026.

Tackling anti-social behaviour on our estates

We're working with partners to reduce anti-social behaviour and improve safety in the area.

  • Regular visits to hotspot areas to encourage reporting - 2026/27.
  • Information leaflets on how to report ASB.

Estate inspections

Your Housing Officers carry out estate inspections at least every three months to check for repairs, fly-tipping, broken lights and grounds maintenance issues.
