Language translation tools help people understand content written in another language. They can be used to translate whole web pages, documents, graphics with text, or small pieces of text into a language you understand.

Many translation tools are built into browsers and devices which means they are free and can be used instantly without needing to install extra software.

Google Translate

Google Translate can translate any website, image, document such as a PDF or text into many different languages.

You can also download the Google Translate app on your device.

Translating webpages

You can enter a website into Google Translate and it will translate the web pages in your chosen language. The translation remains as you move between pages and on any external websites you visit.

When you enter your website to translate, click 'Allow' on the Google Translate popup so the page can load properly.

Translate text, images or documents

Google Translate allows you to upload or paste smaller pieces of content such as:

  • Blocks of text
  • Images with text or screenshots
  • Documents such as PDFs or Word files

Browser translation tools

Most modern browsers will automatically offer to translate a page when it is in a different language. You do not need to install anything. You can change or turn off translation at any time in your browser settings. When you set a native language in your browser, and visit a webpage that isn't in your preferred language, the browser translation tools will automatically popup.

Device translation tools

Mobile phones and tablets have native translation tools already installed, where you can translate live conversations, pieces of text, calls, have conversations and have audio translated in real time.
