Market Place

Market Place is Batley's historical heart. We want to celebrate the space and respect its heritage whilst modernising the area - to create a space people can enjoy for many years to come.

The area will be partially levelled, with new steps, and utilities installed, making it a better space for exciting events and markets. All of this will be done whilst retaining and restoring the historic paving.

We will also be improving the walking links between Market Place and the beautiful Memorial Gardens, making it easier to get about, with better safety and visibility.

Cambridge Street and Market Place will be narrowed to a one-way, single lane route running north making the whole area safer for drivers and people on foot. A road table will be introduced to support traffic calming and pedestrian safety.

We will be reducing the lengths of parking bays in this area, allowing more pavement space for businesses and pedestrians, as well as installing new seating, planting, cycle hubs and street furniture for people to enjoy.
