A safe and welcoming town centre
In order for people to truly enjoy Batley, it's important that everyone feels safe throughout the town centre, and throughout the day.
We want to improve routes for pedestrians, with clearer pathways, better lighting at night and better visibility overall. We're also creating better pedestrian links between key locations you might want to visit around the town centre, including car parks and residential areas like Wards Hill Court.
Carefully-placed street furniture will discourage people from inappropriate pavement parking, which might otherwise make those pavements less safe and accessible.
We want to introduce new traffic calming measures all around the town, and create new, safer pedestrian crossings.
We're introducing new and better planting, seating, street furniture and lighting right across the town centre, making it a much nicer place to relax and spend time.
We also want to create spaces that will work better for community-led events throughout the year, bringing more people into Batley with more to do and more to enjoy.
We want to make Batley much easier and more pleasant to navigate on foot, with better, safer pedestrian links between the local high streets, Batley Plaza and the Tesco.
This will also make it easier and safer for everyone to meet up with friends and family, enjoy local businesses and events.
