The village has a strong tourism industry and is a popular summer destination for day trips due to the presence of the National Trust, Standedge Tunnel and several other attractions including an attractive and busy high street.

The area is home to a mix of businesses, including professional services, convenience shops, and places to eat and drink. Several popular cafés attract lots of visitors, especially during the summer months. Part of the blueprint is to enhance these areas creating cleaner, greener, safer and more attractive streets.
