John William Street
John William Street consists of a number of Grade II listed buildings in the centre of Huddersfield, surrounded by a great amount of heritage, dating all the way back to the 1800's.
As time's have moved on, the shops that occupy the street have become more modern with the character of the buildings being lost.
Our plan is to restore the shop fronts to the original architectural appearance by incorporating the heritage from the buildings themselves and surrounding conservation area.
The plans
Improving shop fronts
We are working alongside B&M Properties who own properties 19 to 33a John William Street to deliver this project.
Work has begun to see the replacement of seven metal framed shop fronts to reflect the age of the property. They will be made from timber with traditional detailing, stall risers and a fascia board showcasing the name of the business. Stone repairs are also being caried out to the buildings.
Funding
This project is being paid for with a grant of £610.5K from the Huddersfield Heritage Led Regeneration Scheme (HLRS).
