Lakeside

Lakeside is the area to the rear of New Mills and could present opportunities for investment and improvement. The New Mills scheme will bring this part of Marsden more into focus and presents some exciting opportunities.

The disused New Mills factory straddles the River Colne, with the river flowing beneath a warehouse building. Redevelopment offers the chance to uncover the river channel, creating ecological and biodiversity benefits while improving flood resilience.

There is a development opportunity on the existing hard-standing site. This could offer scope for housing-led development with a mix of types and tenures, including affordable homes. The children's nursery on the site will remain, and limited public parking could be retained, alongside improved pedestrian links to the village centre.
