The success of our high streets and town centres depends on people being able to get to it easily, whether they choose to walk, cycle, drive, or use public transport. Our town centres should be welcoming, accessible, and easy to find your way around.

If we want to boost footfall, we need to make sure that every type of transport link is fit for purpose. Cycling, walking, buses, and trains are generally the focus for low-carbon transport development, but cars are here to stay, so congestion, emissions and parking all need to factor into plans. There is also growing interest in pedestrianised high streets that can improve the visitor experience.
