Who can foster

We are proud in Kirklees of our vibrant borough and cultural diversity, with people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. Just as there is diversity in children, foster carers come from a variety of backgrounds too. We are an inclusive service and welcome enquiries regardless of faith, ethnicity, culture, sexuality, gender or relationship status. You can be employed or not, with or without children of your own.

The different backgrounds, life experiences, skills and qualities of families help us to meet the needs of our children and young people.

Ideally, when planning a placement, children are matched with a foster family with a similar cultural or social background to their own family. This can help to build a strong, supportive relationship between the looked after child and their foster carers.

We always encourage people to come forward to chat to us about fostering. This is a great opportunity for us to answer all your questions and help you make informed decisions.

We assess everybody on their individual circumstances and own merits.

Most importantly, we ask you have time to commit, space in your home and heart and the support around you to offer a loving, stable home to our children and young people.
