Foster with pride

Here in Kirklees, we believe LGBT+ people and their families have a key role to play in meeting the urgent need for more new homes for our children and young people in care. We want to reach out to encourage people within the community to come forward and consider fostering, as a route to parenting.

The number of LGBT+ families adopting has seen a huge increase across the UK. Sadly, the same can't be said for foster carers. So, if you identify as LGBT+ and enjoy caring for children and young people, we'd love to hear from you today.

New Family Social

We are immensely proud that we are an official member of New Family Social . This LGBT+ peer support network offers advice and support to guide you through every step of the foster carer application process and beyond.

New Family Social is the only UK charity led by LGBT+ adopters and foster carers. This means that they are wholly understanding of not only the process of becoming a foster carer, but also the unique queries and challenges faced by LGBT+ people embarking on their fostering journey.

If you are currently an LGBT+ foster carer for Kirklees or plan to be in the future, you can sign up for New Family Social membership. Some of the benefits you will have access to are peer support and online forums where members can offer and seek advice.
