Marsden is more than its vibrant village centre - it's a community enriched by facilities and attractions spread across the valley. To make the most of these assets, we're improving the links that connect them, creating safer, more enjoyable routes for everyone.

These will strengthen Marsden's sense of place, making it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy everything the village and its surroundings have to offer.

Better access to the station

A continuous pavement along Station Road will aim to make walking between Peel Street and the station easier and safer, welcoming visitors and supporting local travel.

As part of the TransPennine Route Upgrade, the station improvements will further enhance Marsden's connectivity, reducing travel times between the village and the key nearby conurbations of Huddersfield, Leeds and Manchester.

Exploring the canal and Standedge Tunnel

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal and the Standedge Tunnel Visitor Centre are popular attractions. With limited parking at the Centre, strong walking and cycling links from the village and station are proposed.

Celebrating heritage at St Bartholomew's

We plan to enhance the connection between Peel Street and the church, improving the bridge over Wessenden Brook and the setting of the historic burial ground, creating a route that reflects Marsden's proud heritage.

New Mills and riverside paths

The New Mills redevelopment will open up a new pedestrian route across the River Colne to Warehouse Hill, linking communities like Dirker and Grange Street to the heart of the village. Longer-term plans include transforming the river channel and creating scenic riverside trails for walking and relaxation.

Sports and community hubs

Marsden Sports Hall, the football club, and the retail parade at Carrs Road and Fall Lane are key community spaces. We'll improve access with upgraded paths and better public spaces, making these hubs easier to reach and more enjoyable to visit.

Hemplow sports complex

Ensuring everyone can access the sport and recreation facility, we will make Mount Road safer with improved pavements, lighting, and crossings.
