Learning town
We want Dewsbury to be a great place for people to learn and develop their careers, and also a place the next generation of talent will want to base themselves and their careers long-term.
Dewsbury is already home to a fantastic learning quarter which has seen major investment over recent years, and we are looking to provide further opportunities for local students and apprentices wherever possible. We're working with local employers to help them understand our local training offer, supply apprenticeship opportunities for all ages, invest in workplace development, and offer high quality jobs.
Get involved
In 2023, the Dewsbury Neighbourhood Board linked in with Kirklees College to help make sure young people were represented in discussions about the future of Dewsbury town centre. This resulted in the creation of the Youth Voice Champions, a diverse group of young people who volunteered to be more involved in our regeneration projects. Its members are students at Kirklees College, who we've worked closely with on all things blueprint.
A member of the Youth Voice Champions, Anum Rehman, also became a full member of the Dewsbury Neighbourhood Board and the Youth Voice Champions' first board representative. Anum has been heavily involved in our decisions and consultation around all of these blueprint projects. She now remains a board member, closely involved in all our future planning, despite having graduated from Kirklees College and moved on to a career in the public sector.
