In partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, we are transforming Heckmondwike Bus Hub into a fully accessible bus station. We aim to improve public transport facilities and connections from Heckmondwike across Kirklees and further afield.

The £10.5 million facility will be the first bus station in West Yorkshire to be branded as the new Weaver Network , a new transport network for West Yorkshire, joining busses, trains, walking, wheeling, cycling and more into seamless journeys for everyone.

The improvements compliment the Heckmondwike Blueprint, which is all about preserving the town's heritage, whilst looking to the future, creating a healthy, vibrant town centre where people can live, work and enjoy spending time.

Heckmondwike Bus Station is funded by the West Yorkshire Transforming Cities Fund, a programme that aims to help create a positive change in the way we travel across the region, providing accessible, attractive, and greener travel options.

Benefits

Economy and employment

A modern, accessible and passenger friendly bus station will improve transport links and create better connections across our towns and villages connecting people to more education, employment and leisure opportunities. Making it more attractive to travel into Heckmondwike town centre and encourage further investment.

Safety

We're improving security at the bus station for public transport users and people who want to cycle and leave their bike in a secure area.

Accessibility

With level bus boarding, a step free entrance and changing place facilities, travelling to and from Heckmondwike town centre will be a realistic choice for more people.

Active travel

Installing secure cycle facilities at the bus station and improved access for pedestrians, provides more options to use alternative travel.

Environment

More bus stops, better transport links, cycling facilities, indoor waiting areas will encourage more people to opt for sustainable travel options. The living wall will help improve the air quality. This supports our overall target for emission reduction and become 'Net-Zero' by 2038 as outlined in our targets.

Diversion and traffic management

To ensure the work is completed efficiently and safely, diversion routes and traffic management is in place and clearly signposted. These may change as the project progresses. Please check the roadworks page for the national roadworks map for additional details.
