Dewsbury, Batley and Chidswell Sustainable Travel Corridor
We are proposing a series of improvements along the A652 Bradford Road Back Station Road, via Alexandra Road. Funded as part of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority's Transforming Cities Fund, we aim to create a safer, more accessible, and attractive environment for people to walk, cycle and take public transport.
We are proposing a series of transport improvements along the A652 Bradford Road The 'Dewsbury-Batley-Chidswell STC' project is part of the Leeds City Region Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) programme, which aims to help create a positive change in the way we travel across the region, providing an accessible, attractive, and cleaner alternative to car journeys.
Plans
- Enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety along A652 Bradford Road by introducing shared facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.
- Upgrade existing crossings at the A638 Dewsbury Ring Road junction and the junction with Alexandra Road for improved safety.
- New puffin crossings.
- Parking restrictions on A652 Bradford Road; Greaves Road; Commercial Road; Victoria Road; Lower Peel Street; Upper South Street; Carlton Road; Ward Street; North Street; Mill Road; Town Street; Howard Street; Grafton Street; Mill Lane; B6128 Grange Road and B6128 Rouse Mill Lane.
- Parking and loading restrictions on A652 Bradford Road; Jack Lane; Rink Street; Alexandra Road and Back Station Road.
- Propose Victoria Road and Rink Street become one way.
- No entry restrictions on Commercial Road and Mount Street.

Better facilities for cyclists, pedestrians, motorists and public transport will improve journey times.
More realistic sustainable travel options and transport links to public transport, it will be easier to access more education, training, employment and leisure opportunities across Kirklees.
Improve facilities and safer crossings will encourage more people to walk, wheel and cycle
New traffic signals and traffic management in place will make it safer for all highways users, pedestrians and cyclists.
With the introduction of the bus lane and improved cycleways, more people can realistically opt for sustainable travel options and reduce their reliance on private vehicles therefore contributing to the Net Zero and Climate Ready by 2038.
