Get support

  • Free school meals - If you receive certain benefits your child could get free school meals.
  • Get help to buy healthy food and milk - If you're more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under four, you may be entitled to Healthy Start vouchers. Apply online or call Yorkshire Children's Centre on 01484 415465
  • Crisis and Resilience helps if your household has experienced an unexpected financial emergency. Crisis Payments are intended for occasional or short-term needs and cannot replace a regular income.

There are several food banks in Kirklees that offer support with the essentials like food and basic toiletries. Contact the Local Welfare Provision Team, Citizens Advice, a social worker or a GP to check if you are able to receive support. They will make a referral to your nearest food bank or wider support services.

  • Local Welfare Provision helps vulnerable people in short-term crisis with food and energy costs. The scheme intends to meet one off needs rather than ongoing expenses.
  • Kirklees Citizens Advice and Law Centre can refer you to a local food bank and help check that you're getting all you're entitled to. They also give budgeting and debt advice.
