Crisis and Resilience Fund

Our Crisis Payment scheme is designed to help low-income households who encounter a financial shock and to support activity that builds individual and community financial resilience.

The fund is discretionary and as such there is no entitlement to a payment.

The CRF can support residents with:

• food and fuel costs
• essential household appliances and furniture
• clothing, including essential items, warm winter clothing and shoes
• essential transport related costs
• other essential living costs

Eligibility

Awards can only be made where a household has experienced an unexpected financial emergency. Crisis Payments are intended for occasional or short-term needs and cannot replace a regular income.

To be eligible for support you must:

• be resident in Kirklees
• have no available means to meet your needs
• be on a low income or in receipt of the following:
• Universal Credit
• Housing Benefit
• Income Support
• Job Seekers Allowance
• Employment and Support Allowance
• Guaranteed Pension Credit
• Council Tax Reduction
• Child Tax Credit
• Working Tax Credit

Our Local Welfare Provision (LWP) scheme helps vulnerable people in short-term crisis with food and energy costs. The scheme intends to meet one off needs rather than ongoing expenses. It is a discretionary scheme, which means there is no automatic entitlement to support.

We can help with:

• food parcels - these may be provided by a partner organisation
• gas and electricity vouchers for pre-paid meters - these may be provided by a partner organisation

You may be asked to supply proof of your income and expenditure depending on the nature of the request. This could be in the form of a bank statement or receipts for unavoidable expenses. Inappropriate or excessive spending may result in your request being refused.

This fund is provided by the UK Government as part of the Crisis and Resilience Fund and is designed to help households facing shortfalls in their rent and prevent homelessness.

Eligibility

Housing Payments are designed to provide short-term support with rent for people facing severe financial hardship.

They can also help with removal costs if you need to move to a more affordable property and cannot afford these costs yourself.

The fund is discretionary and as such there is no automatic entitlement to a payment. We assess each application on its own merits with consideration to the amount of funding available.

Please note that Housing Payments cannot be used to cover service charges included in your rent, such as fuel, water, or food.

The CRF fund is also being used to fund organisations to improve financial resilience for individuals and households.

Funding organisations providing advice including maximising income, benefits, debt, financial inclusion, housing, preventing homelessness, employment and consumer rights.

Funding foodbanks to add wraparound information and advice services to people accessing emergency food and energy support.

• children receiving means-tested free school meals
• households receiving Council Tax Reduction and where all children are not yet of school age
• households receiving Council Tax Reduction and Carer's Allowance
