Holmfirth Town Centre Access Plan
A £10.3 million investment scheme to create a more accessible town centre for businesses, residents and visitors. The scheme aims to help reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions by prioritising sustainable transport options such as walking, cycling and wheeling while ensuring accessibility for all, and supporting the growth and development of the cultural sector.
The Holmfirth Town Centre Action Plan is a partnership project between the council and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, and a result of multiple rounds of consultation, community engagement events and resident and business feedback, all of which has been fundamental to the planning stage for this scheme to ensure it meets the needs of the community.
The scheme is part of the wider Holmfirth Blueprint.

- Cycling parking.
- Seating with amazing vistas to enjoy.
- Area for eight, 1100 litre bins improving the access and appearance of Hollowgate.

- Drainage improvements
- Signalised pedestrian crossing at Victoria Street
- Better street lighting, traffic signals and
- 20 mph limit throughout the town centre
- Upgrading existing signal-controlled junctions
- Widening of footways on Hollowgate, Huddersfield Road and Victoria Street
- Provision of a loading and disabled parking bay to the north side of Victoria Street
- Cycle hub with maintenance equipment, electric bike storage and charging facilities.
Key benefits
- Improved traffic flow and journey times
- Reduced congestion
- Improved pedestrian safety
- Improved accessibility for vulnerable users
Create a space where residents, businesses and visitors can continue to support their local community and help the economy thrive.
Contribute to Holmfirth's development by modernising the town's unique offering, whilst embracing and celebrating its world-famous heritage so it can be enjoyed by all.
Encourage increased levels of walking, wheeling and cycling in Holmfirth. This will contribute to our targets to reduce harmful emissions and have a positive impact on the environment and climate change.
Alternative public parking in Holmfirth
To allow the work to be carried out safely, Huddersfield Road Car Park (Holmfirth Market) will remain closed throughout. Alternative public parking can be found:
Diversion and traffic management
For improvements to be carried out as efficiently and safely as possible, some diversion routes and traffic management will be in place. They may change as it progresses, however, diversion routes are sign posted. One of the best ways to keep up to date with traffic management and plan your journey is to use the free national roadworks map . Simply search the name of the roads affected and you can view planned works up to 12 months in advance.
