Kirklees Local Plan Engagement Strategy
We have prepared a Local Plan Engagement Strategy which sets out how Kirklees Council will involve residents, businesses, landowners, infrastructure providers and other stakeholders in preparing the new Kirklees Local Plan. It explains when and how engagement will take place, who we will engage with, and how feedback will be used to shape the plan as it progresses through the plan-making process.
Our commitment to engagement
Government guidance on local plan preparation highlights the importance of a clear and effective engagement strategy that sets out the purpose, audiences and objectives for community involvement as part of the wider plan-making programme.
We are committed to ensuring everyone can help shape the future of Kirklees. We will seek to engage a diverse range of residents, businesses, community organisations, developers, landowners, infrastructure providers, neighbouring authorities and statutory consultees throughout the preparation of the Local Plan.
Our approach to community involvement
Different stages of plan preparation require different approaches to engagement. Our approach will be proportionate to the purpose of each stage and based on an understanding of local communities and stakeholders. We will use a range of methods to reach different audiences, explain the scope and purpose of engagement activities, and clearly communicate how views have influenced the development of the plan.
How the strategy was developed
This strategy has been informed by feedback received during the Local Plan Scoping Consultation undertaken between August and September 2026, together with the principles set out in the Council's Statement of Community Involvement (March 2024) which this strategy will replace following its adoption.
