Local plan scoping consultation stage

The Kirklees Local Plan scoping consultation is the first public consultation stage in preparing a Local Plan under the new plan-making system.

The consultation ran from 13 August to 11 September 2026.

We asked your views on:

• What are the main issues, challenges and opportunities facing the area?
• What evidence should the council consider?
• What planning policies may be needed to address local issues?
• How you want to be involved in future consultations on the Local Plan?

The new Kirklees Local Plan will provide a framework for the future planning of Kirklees up to 2043 enabling us to plan for growth and to preparing planning policies to deal with locally specific issues.
