Dewsbury Market Place
View a plan of Dewsbury Market Place
Due to the current Dewsbury Arcade regeneration work and the Market Place soon to be the temporary home for Dewsbury Market, this area will no longer be available for events. The improvement scheme to the front of Dewsbury Town Hall and Longcausway Memorial Gardens is due to be completed by April 2026 and this will be the main area for events in Dewsbury town centre. Please contact towncentreevents@kirklees.gov.uk for up to date information.
The historic Dewsbury market completed its move to the new location in 1937, since then its original location was transformed into the main route through the town centre before being returned to a pedestrianised square that faces Dewsbury Town Hall. It is in close proximity to shops and banks and features two small permanent covered seating areas.
It has hosted many family events such as Dewsbury on Sea, Spirit, Christmas light switch ons and From Beijing to Dewsbury, a celebration of the UK's successful bid to stage the 2012 Olympics!.
The space is often used in conjunction with the Town Hall Apron to make a larger event area. This would require a road closure application for Long Cause Way which splits the two areas.
