Tourism Strategy 2025 to 2028

Community consultation

Kirklees is a district rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. To support the future of tourism in the area, Kirklees Council has developed a draft Tourism Strategy. The strategy highlights enhancing the visitor experience, boosting the local economy, and promoting the Kirklees offer more widely.

Our district offers a distinctive mix of attractions, cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, and destinations. The draft strategy identifies and builds on existing strengths while looking to address opportunities, such as improving infrastructure and increasing overnight stays. The Tourism Strategy will work closely with the Kirklees Heritage Strategy and developing Cultural Strategy, and support the delivery of the Council Partnership Strategies.

By working collaboratively with businesses, cultural institutions, and communities, we aim to make Kirklees a destination of choice, where every visit is memorable.

This public consultation is your chance to help shape the final strategy and ensure it reflects the aspirations of residents, businesses, and visitors.

Draft strategy

Overview

The Draft Tourism Strategy 2025 to 2028 sets out a vision for developing the tourism sector in a sustainable way that benefits both visitors and residents. Kirklees' tourism strengths are defined as:

Music festivals and culture

Heritage

Food and drink

Landscape and wellbeing

Screen tourism

Sport

Each strength is supported by development activity and is further enhanced by work being undertaken as part of the West Yorkshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership.
