We are well known in the communities we serve, as we work hard to develop and maintain key relationships with groups, organisations and the people within them.

The Community Plus Fund (CPF) is for individuals or third sector organisations such as a charity, not-for-profit organisation, voluntary or community group to deliver community-led projects in Kirklees.

Connecting to groups and activities

Over the last year we have supported nearly 150 new and existing groups and projects by connecting them to key partners for funding, for venue hire and with promotion of new and exciting groups across Kirklees.

We collaborate with established and new grassroots groups, providing tailored support to help them connect with other organisations in the community. We offer personalised assistance to help groups identify their needs and take action. We believe in working 'with' groups rather than doing 'for' them.

Small ideas, big outcomes

We introduced two isolated gentlemen who shared a passion for motorbikes. They hit it off immediately and formed a strong bond.

Recognising the potential for a supportive community, we set out to find a suitable venue where these gentlemen could meet each week. This search led to the establishment of Man Friday, a group specifically for older gentlemen, who now meet every Friday morning at the Focal Centre in Lindley.

The group started with just two men and their shared interest in motorbikes. However, our vision extended beyond this small gathering. We wanted to create a welcoming space where men could come together, share their experiences, and support one another. Over time, the group grew organically as word spread about the friendly and inclusive atmosphere.

Three years later, Man Friday has expanded well beyond its humble beginnings. The group now boasts 27 members who attend as and when they want. The conversations have also evolved, covering a wide range of topics beyond motorbikes. The group occasionally organise trips, but members are generally content to meet in person or online and chat about their interests.

The success of Man Friday highlights the importance of community and the positive impact of providing a space for social interaction and support.
