Huddersfield has been a market town since Anglo-Saxon times, and the beautiful market has stood in the town centre since the late 1800s. To keep it going for future generations, the building is about to go under a £16.5 million renovation with the simple aim of keeping what people love, improving facilities, and creating more reasons to visit throughout the week. A temporary market, neighbouring the current Grade II* listed market hall, opened in August 2026. Market days continue to operate from the temporary market location on land between the current market on Brook Street and the Tesco car park. Customers can continue to browse and buy from their favourite stalls and support the livelihoods of traders whilst Huddersfield Market is transformed.
