Dewsbury has been a market town for centuries, with the striking market still at the heart of the town centre. To keep the market thriving within the town centre and future proof it for generations to come, the market will undergo a regeneration project. The aim is to create a modern market space that builds on its heritage while attracting new visitors and businesses. To ensure traders can continue operating during construction, a temporary market will open ahead of the main works starting in Autumn 2026. The council is continuing to work closely with traders to plan the move and allocate spaces, helping to ensure a smooth transition while work progresses on the main site. Once open, the temporary market will continue operating on main market days.
