Information

The Virtual Engagement for Batley town centre is coming soon! Watch this space for more updates.

Kirklees Council's 'Our Local Centres Programme' aims to provide support and investment to town centres across the district ensuring that they have a vibrant town centre, sustainable well-connected communities and healthy, happy residents. Safeguarding the future of our towns is at the heart of the programme.

Phase 1

Phase 1 has identified £1.5m for the following town centres, as defined in the Local Plan.

  • Batley
  • Cleckheaton
  • Heckmondwike
  • Holmfirth

To support investment in each of the town centres, the development of a masterplan identifying areas where significant growth and revitalisation can occur will be crucial in ensuring a long-term future which strengthens the demands of new and existing communities.

Our aim is to work in partnership with ward councillors, local communities, businesses, developers, and voluntary groups to inspire and encourage new investment into these towns.

Next steps

Based on what we've learned from local people, we've now taken the next step and asked more people to help prioritise the ideas, for each town centre. We've held results drop-in sessions for each town, where you could find out more about what people said, talk about what we've learned and help decide what happens next.

We are now in the process of drafting the Masterplans for the 4 centres drawing on this initial engagement. Consultation is planned on the Masterplans later in 2022.
