Situated on Penistone Road, in the garden area in front of Birdsedge First School and adjacent to Birdsedge Village Hall.
A new memorial stone provided by Marshalls Quarry with the wording by J.F. Evans Monumental Masons which was created in 2004.
There was a dedication service on Thursday 11th November 2004 and the unveiling was carried out by Gladys Pell, Land Army Girl, and the service taken by the Reverend T. Robins. Wreaths were laid by the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dr Ingrid Roscoe, the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees Metropolitan Council, Councillor Margaret Fearnley, and children from Birdsedge First School. The Exhortation and Kohima Epitaph was given by Hubert Rhodes, President of the West Yorkshire Royal British Legion.
The periods commemorated are 1914-1918 and 1939-1945. The names of the men who died for their country from Birdsedge and District are on a plaque in Birdsedge Village Hall.
