Dewsbury (South African War)

Situated in Crow Nest Park at the bottom of the main drive leading from the Boothroyd Lane entrance and in close proximity to the lake.

Commemorates the South African War of 1899-1902.

A bronze statue of a volunteer with a slouch hat, bandolier and rifle on a red granite plinth with bronze plaques. The model for the statue was Leonard Crane, who served in the South African War and was killed in action during World War I in October 1916.

Inscriptions

The inscription reads:

This statue was erected to commemorate
the patriotism of the officers and men of
the Auxiliary Forces and St. John Ambulance
Brigade of Dewsbury and District who
served their country in the South African
War 1899-1902 and in memory of those who
lost their lives during the campaign.
