Housing Payment (HP)
This fund is provided by the UK Government as part of the Crisis and Resilience Fund and is designed to help households facing shortfalls in their rent and prevent homelessness.
Eligibility
Housing Payments are designed to provide short-term support with rent for people facing severe financial hardship.
They can also help with removal costs if you need to move to a more affordable property and cannot afford these costs yourself.
Government funding for Housing Payments is limited each year. Once this funding is spent, no further payments can be made. Because of this, we must assess all applications carefully, considering each person's circumstances to ensure support goes to those most in need.
Please note that Housing Payments cannot be used to cover service charges included in your rent, such as fuel, water, or food.
To qualify you must:
- be entitled to Housing Benefit or the housing cost element of Universal Credit
- tell us how the shortfall in your benefits is causing you financial hardship
- provide a breakdown of your weekly expenditure, along with any other relevant information we have requested. This should include:
- whether anyone else in your household is able to contribute financially
- details of any loans or debts you are still repaying
- whether you could reorganise your finances to help ease the situation
- any special circumstances affecting you or your family, such as ill health or disability
