The Kirklees Joint Strategic Assessment (KJSA) looks at the current and future health and care needs of local populations to inform and guide the planning and commissioning of health, well-being and social care services within Kirklees.

The Kirklees Joint Strategic Assessment (KJSA)

  • Looks at the wider social factors that have an impact on people's health and wellbeing, such as housing, poverty and employment.
  • Looks at the health of the population, including behaviours which affect health such as smoking, diet and exercise.
  • Provides an overview of health conditions, care issues and specific population groups for the local community.
  • Identifies health inequalities, gaps in provision.
  • Identifies local assets (strengths) which are improving health and well-being such as groups, networks, activities, spaces and service provision.
  • Identifies actions for local commissioners and providers.

Who is involved in producing the KJSA

Local authorities and clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) have equal and joint duties under the Health and Social Care Act 2012 to prepare Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNAs) and Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategies (JHWSs). They do this on behalf of the Health and Wellbeing Board .
