A62 to Cooper Bridge Corridor Improvement Scheme
The Cooper Bridge area of Kirklees suffers from major congestion, particularly during peak times. To address slow journey times, poor air quality and to support Local Plan housing and employment growth, we are working with West Yorkshire Combined Authority to make improvements in the area.
Following previous public consultations on the Cooper Bridge and Bradley Road improvement scheme in 2021, we have used the feedback to modify plans. Each of the options proposes plans for bus priority and minimising the impact on trees. The scheme is now in two phases as a result of inflation.
Benefits
- Improved journey times
- More accessible public transport
- Better air quality in the local area
- Improved safety for all highway users including cyclists and pedestrians
- Create more opportunities for education, training and employment
- Encourage more housing and business investment
Consultation
In 2021 we consulted with the public on our proposals to make improvements to the Cooper Bridge and Bradley junctions. You can view a copy of our consultation report and details about the scheme we consulted on at A62 to Cooper Bridge Corridor Improvement Scheme - first consultation .
In November 2024, we launch an additional public consultation stage which focussed on Cooper bridge only. The consultation was available online and two drop-in sessions were also held at Battyeford Sporting Club on 13 and 19 November. The consultation closed on Sunday 8 December 2024.
Results will be collated, and a summary report will be shared on this page and on A62 to Cooper Bridge Corridor Improvement Scheme - second consultation
