Congestion, slow journey times and poor air quality were continuous problems along the A62 Leeds Road in Huddersfield. Working with West Yorkshire Combined Authority we have made significant improvements to relive congestion, improve journey times and provide better facilities for cyclists, pedestrians and public transport passengers. The improvements create better access to education, employment and healthcare whilst building our local economy.

Diversion and traffic management

For improvements to be carried out as efficiently and safely as possible, some diversion routes and traffic management will be in place. They may change as it progresses, however, diversion routes are sign posted. One of the best ways to keep up to date with traffic management and plan your journey is to use the free national roadworks map . Simply search the name of the roads affected and you can view planned works up to 12 months in advance.

Plans

  • changes at the gyratory outside the Great Northern Street retail park, replacing a complicated junction with new road layout, traffic signals, lane markings, road signage and lighting.
  • This project is the first phase of improvements, with improvements to Cooper Bridge to follow.
  • Upgrade some signals to better manage traffic, making it safer for pedestrians to cross.
