About the workshop

  • Cost: £260 (full day visit from 10am - 2:30pm)

What to expect on the day:

Choose from two of the following workshops to create a bespoke visit to suit your students:

  • What is in the ground?: Explore rocks, fossils, and soils through interactive activities like a rock treasure hunt, a fossil detective challenge and soil sample collection and testing.
  • What grows here?: Investigate the uses of various plants, participate in a plant architecture treasure hunt and learn all about the different signs of the season.
  • What lives here?: Create natural art sculptures using materials found in the country park, explore animals that live high or fly and investigate the animals that live on the ground. Learn more about species, habitats and adaptations.
  • What is in the water?: Go pond dipping to observe pond life, explore the water cycle throughout the park and learn about the frog lifecycle.
  • Human geography: Explore the impact of human activity at Oakwell Hall through studying maps, identifying evidence of human activity in the park and observing tourism in action.
  • Orienteering: Explore the 110 acres of Oakwell Hall Country Park. Get to grips with map reading and using keys and compass points to try and find all the marked points. On the way see examples of physical and human geography, cross fields, walk footpaths and avoid hazards.

Learning outcomes

Students will develop knowledge linked to the natural world, focusing on plant and animal life, and the environment. They will use fieldwork skills such as observation, recording, making predictions, testing hypothesis and presenting findings.
