Respite care and short breaks

There are lots of different places to have a short break, known as respite.

Respite care can be when:

  • The person who usually supports you takes a break.
  • You have a break.
  • You and the person who supports you have a break together.

Kirklees Council has two respite services for adults with learning disabilities - Mill Dale and Cherry Trees.

How to get respite

  1. First you need a social care assessment.
  2. If the council think you need respite care, this will be put in your support plan.
  3. Contact us to discuss your short break.
