Don't let it be you

Don't Let It Be You logo

'Don't let it be you' is a new campaign being launched in Kirklees to encourage women to take up their breast screening when they are invited. The campaign aims to not only highlight the importance of breast screening but to also highlight the risks of not attending a breast screening appointment when invited, so 'Don't let it be you' who misses your breast screening appointment!

Transcript of Don't Let It Be You - The Swing

The film shows a house on a local residential street in Kirklees.

Inside the house, letters fall through the letterbox onto the doormat. One has the NHS logo.

A woman a little boy walk out of the house together.

They walk down the street, talking and looking cheerful, towards the park.

Cuts back to the NHS letter left on the doormat.

The little boy slides down the slide in the park, then the woman slowly fades away.

The boy then starts to cry as he realises he is left alone.

What breast screening is

Breast screening aims to detect breast cancer before you can see or even feel that anything is wrong. It aims to detect it at the earliest stage so it can be treated.

Imagine a lemon - you can't see the pips or feel the pips. We screen people for breast cancer so we can find a cancer before it develops into something that you can feel or see.

All women, registered with a GP, will receive their first breast screening invite between the ages of 50-53 and will be invited every three years until they reach 71. (Unless you were invited as part of the breast screening age extension trials these people will receive an invite at 47-50 or 70-73).

If you are 71 and over, and have stopped receiving screening invitations, you may still be eligible for breast screening. For more information contact Pennine Breast Services on 01274 365521.

If you are transgender talk to your GP about Well Person checks as you may not get an automatic invite for appropriate screening when your gender marker has been changed on your NHS record.

If you think you may have an increased risk of breast cancer due to family history, talk to your GP.
