After you've applied

One of our staff will call for payment.

The plaque will be supplied and fixed by Kirklees Council up to 28 days after your application is received, unless it is a public baby grave in which more than one baby is buried. In this case plaques are not placed on the grave until the grave is full.

After you've applied

The details supplied on the application will be checked and grounds checks will be requested.

Once this work is completed the monumental mason will be issued with a permit to carry out the requested work.

Conditions for having your memorial erected in a cemetery

  • Only accredited masons can undertake memorial work in accordance with the National Association of Memorial Masons Code of Working Practice.
  • Memorials must be prepared ready for fixing before being taken into the cemetery.
  • The foundation of memorials must not be visible above the ground.
  • Memorials must be fixed in line with adjoining memorials.
  • On a lawn type grave any vase must be incorporated in the base of the memorial.
  • The mason is responsible for paying for any damage caused by their work.

Accredited monumental masons in Kirklees

This list includes monumental masons in the Kirklees Area who are accredited with either the British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons (BRAMM) or with the National Association of Memorial Masons (NAMM)

Any mason that is accredited with either of the above associations is permitted to work in our cemeteries. However, if you do wish to use a mason not on the above list they will have to call the Bereavement Services Office for more information regarding our processes and rules and regulations.
