About the site

Wilshaw Recreation Ground is within the small hamlet of Wilshaw, in the Holme Valley North ward of Kirklees. It has been prioritised for updating due to its age and existing condition, this site last had an upgrade in 2007.

Project overview

The improvements aim to make the play provision more appealing to local residents by upgrading the existing equipment, re-enforcing the boundary edges of the play area and re-surfacing underneath the equipment to the existing footprint of the site. The improvement work has agreed with local Councillors and will offer additional play value to a site that is in need of an upgrade.

Consultation

Together with Ward Councillors we've created a new design for the play area. We're interested to hear what you think about the proposed ideas for improvements at Wilshaw Rec. Consultation will be in the format of an online survey, and a letter drop to local residents.

Information about the new design

  • Replacement of timber boards around the play area.
  • Addition of topsoil, turf, and grass matting safety surface across whole of play area to replace bark.
  • Refurbishment of climbing unit.
  • Replacement of bearings on roundabout.
  • New seats on toddler swing unit.
  • New seats on junior swing unit.
  • Addition of a new bin.
  • Upgrade access ramp and steps to the site.

Next steps

The first step in the process is to gather feedback from the local community about the proposed design. The final design would then be implemented on site.
