About the site

Jim Lane Recreation ground is located in the suburb of Marsh, within the Greenhead ward of Kirklees. The play area here has been selected by local councillors to be redeveloped as part of the Playable Spaces programe as it is one of the oldest play areas in the ward.

Works have now completed on the refurbished play area and it is open!

Project overview

Together with Ward Councillors we created a new design for the Play Area. The design was created to make the play provision more appealing and accessible to all age groups by using a variety of play equipment.

Feedback from the local community about the new proposed design was gathered via a public consultation. The feedback received resulted in changes to the original plan and the revised scheme layout above was implemented on site.

The refurbished play area includes:

  • A new rope causeway balance unit
  • A new flywheel roundabout
  • A new switchback run balance beam
  • A new nexus core multi-climber
  • Refurbished seesaw, climbing frame and swing set
  • 2 benches and an accessible picnic bench

The play value score of this site increased by 34% upon completion of the redevelopment!
