Greenhead Park
About the site
Greenhead Park is located on Trinity Street, Huddersfield, HD1 4DT - only 0.5 miles from Huddersfield Town Centre.
There are currently two playable spaces on site, with equipment for multiple age groups.
The first playable space which is located adjacent to the miniature railway is split into two sections - with a toddler area fenced off from an un-fenced main playable space for junior ages and upwards.
The second playable space is located between the events field and the memorial, and is the newest addition of play
Project overview
Kirklees Playable Space Strategy has some funding to support the refurbishment of these play sites. Together with your local ward councillors we have created some refurbishment proposals.
The design includes:
- Removing the existing timber climbing wall which is coming to the end of its usable lifespan.
- Installing a new double bay steel toddler swing to replace the current one which is nearing the end of its usable lifespan.
- Removal of the existing water pump/tap on the decked area adjacent to the toddler area (and making good the decked area)
- Installing a new large tower climber to replace the current one which is nearing the end of its usable lifespan and causing ASB issues.
- Topping up the bark surfacing under the remainder of the existing equipment in the play area.
- Adding boulders and a clamber ramp (with rubber mulch surfacing) to the banking between the tower unit and the zip line.
There is also opportunity for the Council to apply for further funding to support further refurbishment at the second play area. Should further funding become available, the following proposals have also been put forward:
- Installation of new plastic picnic benches onto rubber mulch surfacing.
- Accessible surfacing improvements - sand carpet under current bridge / rubber mulch under existing multi play unit and new kit additions.
- Addition of a new roundabout.
- Addition of new timber trim trail which links with existing boulders and play.

Next Steps
The Parks Development Team are actively exploring options for enhancing the play areas at Greenhead Park. Our goal is to provide a safe, engaging, and enjoyable environment for children and families.
Recently, we have undertaken removal works for some of the existing play equipment that had reached the end of its life. This includes the removal of the tall tower unit and the zipline.
These removals are part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the play areas meet current safety standards and provide a high-quality experience.
We appreciate your patience and support as we work to improve Greenhead Park. Stay tuned for further updates on the exciting new play equipment and enhancements coming soon!
