About the site

Glenfield Avenue Play Area is in the Ashbrow Ward of Kirklees. Together with Ward Councillors, we selected this site for redevelopment as it's one of the oldest play areas in Ashbrow and was in need of updating.

Works have now completed on the new play area!

Project overview

Together with Ward Councillors we created a new design for the Play Area. The design was created to make the play provision more appealing and accessible to all age groups by using a variety of play equipment types and natural play features.

The design proposed to:

  • To remove the fence to the play area to increase play value to the site
  • Replace the existing equipment in a slightly different location on the site
  • Install a steel junior climber
  • Install a hide and slide accessible and toddler multiplay unit
  • Install a steel 2 bay swings with toddler and flat seats
  • Install a spinner
  • Install a chin up bar
  • Set equipment on rubber grass matting
  • Introduce more natural elements into the play area with the use of a small swale that will aid drainage which will have boulders across to act as stepping stones, Plant flowering cherry trees, a liquid amber tree and perennial planting. Refurbish the existing bins and benches.

A public consultation on the design took place and as a result of our consultation, we created a report with our findings and revised the designs for the play area and recreation ground plans.

We used your feedback and worked together with Ward Councillors to adjust our plans to take into account your suggestions and/or concerns where practicable.
