About the site

Earlsheaton Park is a key feature of the Dewsbury East ward. Dating back to the early 20th Century, the park is located on Mount Pleasant looking out over the Calder Valley.

Currently, the park is mostly designated as recreation ground, consisting of mainly mown grass and a mix of informal/formal footpaths from multiple entrances around the site. There are also two Bowling Greens, Tennis Courts, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), a play area and youth shelter.

Kirklees Council has received Section 106 funding from a local housing development to put towards improvements at Earlsheaton Park.

Project overview

Explanation and information about the new design

Our goal is to enhance and expand the play facilities at this site, making them accessible to a variety of ages and abilities.

The proposals were developed with local councillors' input from the previous consultation. The design aims to offer an inclusive play environment for all ages and abilities with diverse equipment. With this in mind the play area will be split into two sections: one within the existing fenced area and another new unfenced area connected to it, the following plans include:

Fenced play area

  • Toddler Climbing Unit
  • Swings With Toddler Seats & Accessible Seat
  • Toddler Dragonfly Rocker
  • Accessible Wheelchair Roundabout
  • Snake Balancing Pole

Unfenced play area

  • Six Way Swing
  • Supernova Roundabout
  • Somersault Bars
  • Cliff Rider Pendulum Play Unit
  • Arc Monkey Bars & Net
  • 6 Way Seesaw
  • Accessible Junior Play Unit With Ramp Access
