About the site

Earlsheaton Park is a key feature of the Dewsbury East ward. Dating back to the early 20th Century, the park is located on Mount Pleasant looking out over the Calder Valley.

Currently, the park is mostly designated as recreation ground, consisting of mainly mown grass and a mix of informal/formal footpaths from multiple entrances around the site. There are also two Bowling Greens, Tennis Courts, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), a play area and youth shelter.

Kirklees Council has received Section 106 funding from a local housing development to put towards improvements at Earlsheaton Park.

Explanation and information about the new design

A condition of the funding is that play within the park is improved so we are looking to enhance and extend the existing play area within Earlsheaton Park, however play isn't limited to just a play area and so we will also look at developing the wider park area.

Various initial concepts have been developed in conjunction with your local councillors and we would be grateful for your feedback on the proposals to make sure these improvements meet the needs of the local community.

Several initial proposals for what the funding could be put towards have been created. This includes proposals to improve the following:

  • Play
  • Sports
  • Increasing Biodiversity
  • Heritage features
  • Public art/Creative space provision
  • Seating/social space provision
  • Paths and Access

The proposals are concepts only at this stage and we'd like to get some initial feedback, and to understand what park users and the local community might like to see on site in the future.
