Cross Lane play area
About the site
The Cross Lane play area is located within the village of Skelmanthorpe, in the Denby Dale ward of Kirklees. This site sits within existing open greenspace and serves the surrounding residential communities.
Outdoor play supports physical, social and cognitive development and benefits people of all ages. The aim of this project is to enhance and expand the play facilities, creating inclusive spaces that can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages and abilities.
Project overview
The proposed design includes:
- New play equipment including the cliff rider, stepping stones bridge and mobilus.
- Replacing the ball area with a new basketball hoop and goal with line-markings and ball court panelling.
- Installing a mini cycle track
- Some existing equipment will be kept and refurbished, this includes the existing climbing frame, roller and swings.
- Full resurfacing of the play area and extension with an accessible, bounded rubber mulch safety surface to replace the existing bark.
- Removing the existing railings to 3 sides retaining the fencing pitch side.
- Existing benches and bin to be retained.
