This is how we calculate your 2021 to 2022 Council Tax bill

We've based the figures below on a Band D property in Kirklees that has no parish precept to pay.

First let's look at the 2020 to 2021 figures

2020 to 2021 Council Tax
2020/21 Average basic Council Tax rate + 2020/21 Adult Social Care contribution = Total Average Council Tax for 2020/21
£1433.28 + £136.52 = £1569.80

We can now use these figures to work out the Council Tax increase for 2021 to 2022.

1. General increase for 2021 to 2022

How we calculate the Council Tax general increase 2021 to 2022
Council Tax for 2020/21 x General increase for 2021/22 = Council Tax general increase for 2021/22
£1569.80 x 1.99% = £31.23

2. Basic amount for 2021 to 2022

How we calculate the basic Council Tax amount 2021 to 2022
Council Tax for 2020/21 + Council Tax general increase for 2021/22 - Adult Social Care contribution for 2020/21 = 2021/22 basic Council Tax
£1569.80 + £31.23 - £136.52 = £1464.51

3. Adult Social Care (ASC)

How we calculate the Adult Social Care contribution for 2021/2022
Council Tax for 2020/21 x increase for 2021/22 = Amount of increase for 2021/22 + Adult Social Care contribution for 2020/21 = Adult Social Care contribution for 2021/22
£1569.80 x 3% = £47.09 + £136.52 + £183.62*

Contributions started in 2016/17 and increased year on year (except for 2019/20).

There is a requirement to have a separate line on the bill to show the amount of Council Tax which is dedicated to the provision of Adult Social Care services.

(*Figures rounded to two decimal points)

4. Final bill for 2020 to 2021

How we calculate the final Council Tax bill for 2021 to 2022 (not including parish precept)
2021/22 basic Council Tax rate + Adult Social Care contribution for 2021/22 + West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority contribution + West Yorkshire Police Authority contribution = 2021/22 Council Tax bill
£1464.51 + £183.62 + £67.18 + £211.28 = £1926.59
