This is how we calculate your 2019 to 2020 Council Tax bill

We've based the figures below on a Band D property in Kirklees that has no parish precept to pay.

First let's look at the 2018 to 2019 figures

2018 to 2019 Council Tax
2018 to 2019 basic Council Tax rate + 2018 to 2019 Adult Social Care contribution = Total Council Tax for 2018 to 2019
£1359.44 + £106.33 = £1465.77

We can now use these figures to work out the Council Tax increase for 2019 to 2020.

1. General increase for 2019 to 2020

How we calculate the Council Tax general increase 2019 to 2020
Council Tax for 2018 to 2019 x General increase for 2019 to 2020 = Council Tax general increase for 2019 to 2020
£1465.77 x 2.99% = £43.82

2. Basic amount for 2019 to 2020

How we calculate the basic Council Tax amount 2019 to 2020
Council Tax for 2018 to 2019 + Council Tax general increase for 2019 to 2020 - Adult Social Care contribution = 2019 to 2020 basic Council Tax
£1465.77 + £43.82 - £106.33 = £1403.26

3. Adult Social Care (ASC)

Contributions started in 2016/17 and increased year on year up to 2018 to 2019.

For 2019 to 2020 there is no increase so remains the same: £106.33

There is a requirement to have a separate line on the bill to show the amount of Council Tax which is dedicated to the provision of ASC services.

4. Final bill for 2019 to 2020

How we calculate the final Council Tax bill for 2019 to 2020 (not including parish precept)
2019 to 2020 basic Council Tax rate + Adult Social Care contribution for 2019 to 2020 + West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority contribution + West Yorkshire Police Authority contribution = 2019 to 2020 Council Tax bill
£1403.26 + £106.33 + £64.59 + £186.95 = £1761.13
