Notice of intention to commence Local Plan preparation
Under the new plan-making system (The Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026, Part 4 Regulation 19), we are required to publish a notice of intention to commence Local Plan preparation.
This notice provides communities and other stakeholders with advance notice of plan-making and details so that understand when and how they can get involved in preparing the Local Plan.
The title of the local plan is, the Kirklees Local Plan and it will cover the local planning authority area. This is the administrative area of Kirklees Council except for that part within the Peak District National Plan. Our new Local Plan will cover the period 2024-2043.
The Kirklees Local Plan will set out a spatial planning and policy framework for the whole of Kirklees (excluding the area within the Peak District National Park) up to 2043. It will include a long-term vision and strategic objectives, a spatial strategy, policy framework and a monitoring and implementation framework to deliver the strategy. The Kirklees Local Plan will incorporate all the Kirklees Minerals and Waste Plan.
