World class collections presenting a vivid and intriguing picture of the local area and people. You will find amazing objects charting history from earliest settlers to the boom in the textile industry and modern day collections from local people. Including historic vehicles, objects from the Luddite rebellion and the famous Bird Room, a stunning exhibition now almost a century old.

Opening times and access

Tolson shop reflects the museum collections, selling a beautiful gemstones selection together with natural history, transport and Victorian inspired ranges. There are also books and memorabilia. Unique local art and a wide range of traditional toys and pocket money souvenirs, as well as yummy traditional sweets, drinks and ice creams.

Eating and drinking

Hot and cold drinks, crisps, confectionery and ice creams can be purchased in Tolson shop and consumed in the Transport Gallery refreshments area or taken outside to enjoy in the park.

Venue hire

Two delightful, newly-refurbished meeting and conference rooms are available for hire at Tolson Museum.

The Morning Room and The Study are both beautiful airy rooms with views through bay windows onto the park and gardens. Beautiful period features, decorative plasterwork ceilings and wooden floors give a glimpse of its elegant Edwardian lifestyle - a perfect setting for your meetings, conferences, product launches, AGMs, talks and team away days.

Group visits

Organised groups are very welcome although booking is essential. It is free admission during usual opening hours and charges are applicable outside of the usual hours. You can contact Tolson Musum to book.


Access to the museum is via the main drive. There is ample free parking in the main car park just off the drive.
