There are plenty of cycling opportunities available for children, young people and adults and you can find our more information from the cycling opportunities booklet; including training, bike rides, and community activities. You can get involved with local cycling events, training and bike maintenance sessions too.

Tour de France Legacy

Kirklees Council, with the other West Yorkshire local authorities and those across the Yorkshire and Humber region have signed up to deliver a cycling legacy from the Tour de France in 2014.

At a West Yorkshire level, West Yorkshire Sport leads the Cycle West Yorkshire group consisting of transport, leisure and health representatives of the local authorities, plus the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, British Cycling, the CTC and Sustrans.

Using stationary indoor fitness bikes seek to combine cardiovascular fitness with muscle strength and endurance exercises. All sessions are instructor led and participants much be 16 years+.


MYRIDE+ is a virtual coaching programme led by an on-screen instructor.

Like MYRIDE+, MYSPORTIF is led by a virtual vocal instructor although it uses virtual forward motion scenic video. It a first person video experience that allows the participants to feel as if they are travelling through a location just as they would in real life.

Walking and cycling framework

Kirklees Council, and partners, have an ambition to increase the numbers of people walking and cycling. The Strategic Framework supports the council's economic and joint health and wellbeing strategies and compliments a range of partner policies and strategies.
