Join us in creating a sustainable future for West Yorkshire! The Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority are working in partnership with Kirklees Council and One Community to offer grants to community groups to support climate friendly projects.

Our collaboration ensures efficient management and effective distribution of the grants, maximizing their impact across West Yorkshire.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority has set an ambitious target to become a net-zero carbon region by 2038, with significant progress by 2030. To achieve this, we need your help! The mayor is launching a community grants scheme, offering funding ranging from £5,000 to £50,000 to community groups and voluntary organizations.

We are seeking projects that prioritize:

  • Local, clean, and flexible energy solutions
  • Healthy, affordable, and efficient buildings
  • Walking, cycling, and public transport
  • Green and climate-ready nature solutions

Aims

Community Grants for Climate Projects aims to:

  • Deliver between 32 and 337 projects across West Yorkshire, supporting communities in the transition to net zero
  • Positively impact at least one disadvantaged community per project
  • Make sustainable energy improvements in community buildings
  • Contribute to the development of clean energy generation projects
  • Deliver schemes that result in reported increases in public transport use, walking, and cycling
  • Deliver projects that increase community access to green space and nature

Eligible project themes

  • Sustainable energy improvements in community buildings
  • Clean energy generation projects (solar panel limit of £10,000 for panels and £1,250 for feasibility)
  • Schemes that increase public transport use, walking, and cycling
  • Schemes that increase community access to green space and nature

Community groups and local climate groups, voluntary community and social enterprises (VCSEs) in West Yorkshire are encouraged to apply. Together, we can make a significant impact on our environment and communities.

A total budget of £279,855 has been allocated for projects, with individual projects eligible for funding between £5,000 and £50,000.
