Admittance to the site is not allowed after the closing time. Those in the queue at closing time will be unable to access the site. If visiting the site near to closing time, please make sure you allow ample time to unload your vehicle and for the possibility of queues.

Weekday opening times change when the clocks change. When do the clocks change?

  • Monday to Friday: Summer: 8am to 5pm
  • Monday to Friday: Winter: 8am to 4pm
  • Saturday: 8am to 4pm
  • Sunday: 9am to 4pm
  • Closed: Christmas, Boxing and New Year's Day

Register, renew or delete your vehicle permit to use at a household waste recycling centre

You don't have to carry a printed permit. When you arrive at our site, a staff member will check your vehicle's registration number on a tablet. If your vehicle is registered correctly, you can unload it.

You can register two vehicles to your home address in Kirklees.

Step 2 - Register your vehicle to use a household waste recycling centre

  • To register your vehicle, you will first need to complete Step 1 to register and login to your My Kirklees Account.
  • You can register two vehicles at your property in Kirklees
  • Registration of large vehicles can take at least up to 10 working days for our decision and it might take longer in busy periods.

To register your vehicle you will need your vehicle registration number, make and model.

To register a large vehicle you will need your registration number, make, model, page 1 & 2 of your log book (V5) and photos of the front and side view of your vehicle.

To register a modified vehicle for disabled passenger use you will need to supply one photograph showing the modifications or disability access of the vehicle.

Cars, estates, people carriers and 4x4s (without pick-ups) will get immediate confirmation and can use our centres straight away.

To renew your permit you will need your vehicle registration number.

You can renew your permits 14 days before expiry. If you do not renew during this time, you will have to register your vehicle again.

Book for free disposal of plaster and plasterboard

You must book online before you can dispose of your plaster and plasterboard waste at a household waste recycling centre. Disposal is still free, but must be booked in advance.

After you've booked

Only gypsum based plaster can be disposed (not cement based). Hardened plaster or plasterboard is accepted.

The waste must be delivered in bags or full sheets.

You will need to see a member of staff on site to confirm your booking and to show you where you need to deposit your plaster or plasterboard on site.

Types of vehicle permits

We issue three types of permit: a car, a large vehicle or a modified vehicle for disabled passenger use.

Car permits

Cars can start to use our centres once you have successfully registered your vehicle. Permits for cars expire after 2 years.

If you have a large vehicle, you will also need to upload an image of page 1 and 2 of your log book (V5) vehicle registration document.

Trailers

Trailers are allowed. They are limited to 6 feet or 1.83 meters in length, single axle and 12 visits per year.

Hire cars and vans

If you have a hire car or van:

  • You have 7 days to use the site.
  • The 7-day period starts on the date of the agreement.
  • We will ask for a Council Tax or utility bill which shows the same address as the one on the hire agreement.
  • You do not need to register online.

These items cannot be accepted at household Waste recycling centres. You can arrange to have this material collected by the council for a fee. Order a Bulky household waste collection.

Re-use shop donations: "Revive"

Visit our Re-use Shop in Huddersfield to donate and buy quality items.

Drop off smaller donations Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm.

Book slots for larger items by calling directly.

You can also donate at designated containers at two of our Household waste Recycling Centres these are Emerald Street, Huddersfield, and Weaving Lane, Dewsbury.

Proceeds support charity, with over 83 tonnes donated in the first year.
