Closure of Dewsbury Register office

Following news regarding the proposed closure of Dewsbury Register office, weddings will continue to be held at both Town Halls for existing and new customers.

The Registration Service offers a ceremony room at both Dewsbury and Huddersfield town halls. The ceremony rooms are in keeping with the classic Victorian style of each of the majestic buildings with plenty of photo opportunities within their magnificent interiors.

The rooms

The ceremony rooms are perfect for a simple ceremony or a standard ceremony and can also be used for renewal of vows and other celebratory ceremonies. They are spacious enough to seat 30 guests as well as the wedding couple.

The Town Halls Team offer larger rooms and halls to accommodate from 30 to 200 guests. They provide bespoke options, with food and drink included if required, so your ceremony, wedding reception and evening party can be under one room at either Huddersfield or Dewsbury town halls. Please contact weddings@kirklees.gov.uk for more information and to arrange a viewing.

What to expect on the day at a town hall ceremony

Town hall parking

Dewsbury Town Hall: For parking and access

Huddersfield Town Hall: For parking and access

There is no dedicated parking for wedding parties at either of the town halls. However there are public car parks within the vicinity. Please factor in time to find parking when planning your day.

Access to car parks may be restricted if town centre events are taking place, please check in advance.

When to arrive

If the wedding couple wish to arrive separately then one should arrive 20 minutes before the ceremony start time, and the other no later than 10 minutes before. If you are happy to arrive together then please arrive no later than 20 minutes before the start time so that all of the legal preliminaries can be carried out.

Entering the ceremony room

You can walk down the aisle, on your own or together or with another member of the wedding party.

Using confetti

You are more than welcome to use biodegradable confetti outside the town hall. However, if you are getting married at an Approved Venue you will need to check with your wedding coordinator.

Photographs

The buildings offer an ideal opportunity to take photographs both inside and out. However, they remain public buildings during ceremonies and on occasion photography opportunities may be restricted.
