What is an RSS news feed?

What is RSS?
An RSS (or Really Simple Syndication) news feed is a free list of news articles
from a website. It contains article headlines, summaries and links back to
full articles on the site that provided the feed.
How do I recognise an RSS feed?
Many websites state explicitly when content is presented from an RSS feed, or
if an RSS feed is available. This is usually done by displaying a small image icon.

What are the benefits of using RSS?
RSS is an easy way for you to be alerted when content that interests you
appears on your favorite websites. Instead of visiting a particular website
to browse for new articles and features, RSS automatically tells you when
something new is posted online.

We currently present our own RSS feeds, as well as RSS feeds that
offer local and national news.
How can I sign up to RSS feeds from kirklees.gov.uk?
In general, you need software called a news reader. This checks the feeds
and lets you read any new articles that have been added. There are many
different types of news reader, some of which are accessed using a web browser,
and some of which are downloadable applications. To sign up for RSS feeds
from kirklees.gov.uk, follow the instructions for
your particular news reader.
Presenting RSS feeds on your own website
You can display the latest headlines from kirklees.gov.uk and other websites
on your own site if they offer an RSS feed. If you display RSS feeds from
www.kirklees.gov.uk, you must make it clear that the source of the news articles
is Kirklees Council.
